Our optometrist in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach is pleased to offer transition lenses, a special type of eyeglass frame, at Advanced Eyecare Center. Learn what these lenses are and why we may recommend them for your vision needs.
Transition lenses, which are also called photochromic lenses, adjust to changes in the light. These optimize your eyesight in natural light, interior lighting, bright sunlight, and other environments. When you are out in the sun, the lenses instantly darken as much as sunglasses to block UV light from your eyes. When you enter your home, the lenses return to a clear state so you see optimally. These color changes take 30 seconds or less, which means that you do not have to worry about a lengthy adjustment time frame.
By adapting to the light -- interior light vs. sunlight -- transition lenses reduce squinting, eye tiredness, and eye strain. When you are in sunlight, your vision will be both crisper and more colorful for an improved visual experience.
Transition lenses are more cost-effective than purchasing both prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses. If you routinely go from indoors to outdoors for work or during your leisure time, it is much easier to have one pair of glasses that operate in both environments than to be switching back and forth between eyeglasses and sunglasses and risk losing one.
Our eye doctor might recommend transition lenses if:
You are a child (it can be hard enough for kids to keep track of one pair of glasses, never mind eyeglasses AND sunglasses)
You move between interior and exterior for work
You have a problem with glare and require prescription eyeglasses
You want to protect your eyes from UV rays 100 percent
You are an athlete in need of high-quality performance eyewear
You are on a budget and want to save money while protecting your vision
We offer all of the latest styles of glasses frames at our optometry shop in El Segundo and Redondo Beach. Many of the frames we stock can accommodate transition lenses. If you would like a new pair of frames, our staff would be more than happy to discuss our offerings with you. You do not need an appointment to browse our frames, although you are more than welcome to make one if you have other needs.
